Slow Signs of Aging by Removing These Harmful Foods

You probably know how much of an impact your diet can have on your overall health, but do you know about some of the more specific effects certain foods can have on your body? There is a specific set of foods out there which have been known to actually speed up the aging process within your body. These foods tend to be highly inflammatory, and if you consume them on a regular basis, they can create a whole host of health problems, none of which will be helped by a rapidly-aging mind and body.

Sugary Foods

Sugar. You already know it’s bad for you when consumed in excess amounts, but why exactly is this the case? Part of it has to do with our highly sedentary lifestyles, which prevent us from burning off the sugar at a necessary rate. Large amounts of sugar in the bloodstream can lead to a breakdown of collagen (the substance which makes skin look young) while increasing the amount of wrinkles forming on the surface of the skin. Excess refined sugar can also lead to a decline in cognitive thinking skills, and can eventually increase your risk of developing such serious illnesses as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Stick to natural sweetening agents, such as honey or stevia, and cut back on your refined sugar intake for a healthier body.

Fried Foods

Obviously, fried foods are full of fat and artery-clogging grease, but the damage gets worse than that. In order to fry food, you need to be cooking at high temperatures; these temperatures can lead to an increase of inflammatory compounds known as advanced glycation end products (AGES). These compounds, unsurprisingly, increase inflammation throughout the joints of the body, and high amounts of them have been linked to health conditions such as stroke, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis.

Refined and Processed Carbs

Carbohydrates are essentially for providing your body with energy. The problem is that many carb-heavy products you find in the supermarket today have been heavily processed and refined to the point where any nutritional value they may have once had, especially fiber, has been completely stripped away. Fiber sustains your energy levels and improves your body’s insulin response, which is vital for keeping a youthful look and feel.
